The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) is a provincial immigration program designed to support Alberta’s economic growth by addressing labor market needs. Skilled workers, entrepreneurs, and graduates can apply for permanent residency through this program.
AAIP operates both Express Entry-linked streams and independent streams, allowing a diverse range of applicants to qualify.

1. AAIP Streams
AAIP consists of six major streams, each with specific eligibility requirements.
1) Alberta Express Entry Stream
✅ Candidates registered in the federal Express Entry system with a strong potential to contribute to Alberta’s economy are invited.
✅ Minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 300 is required.
✅ Must have a job in an in-demand occupation (IT, healthcare, construction, etc.).
✅ At least one year of work experience in the relevant field.
✅ Once invited, candidates must submit a provincial nomination application within 30 days.
2) Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS)
✅ For temporary foreign workers currently employed in Alberta.
✅ Must have a full-time job offer from an Alberta employer.
✅ The job must be listed on Alberta’s approved occupation list.
✅ Minimum CLB 4 in English or French (CLB 5 for NOC TEER 0, 1 jobs).
✅ At least 12 months of full-time work experience in Alberta in the past 18 months.
3) Farm Stream
✅ For applicants with experience in managing a farming business.
✅ Must submit a detailed business plan for an agricultural business in Alberta.
✅ Minimum investment of $500,000 CAD required.
✅ The business must contribute to Alberta’s agricultural economy.
4) Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur Stream
✅ For foreign graduates outside Canada who want to start a business in Alberta.
✅ Minimum CLB 7 in English or French required.
✅ Must have a viable business plan.
✅ Minimum investment of $50,000 CAD required.
5) Graduate Entrepreneur Stream
✅ For foreign graduates of Alberta post-secondary institutions who wish to start a business.
✅ Minimum CLB 7 in English or French required.
✅ A solid business plan is required.
✅ Must hold at least 34% ownership in the business.
6) Rural Renewal Stream
✅ For applicants with a full-time job offer in a designated rural area in Alberta.
✅ Requires a community endorsement from a rural municipality.
✅ Minimum CLB 4 in English or French required.
✅ Must intend to work in Alberta for at least 12 months.
2. Application Process
📌 Step 1: Choose the Right Stream
Select the appropriate stream based on your qualifications, work experience, and investment potential.
📌 Step 2: Submit Application & Required Documents
Apply online or via paper application, including required documents (work experience proof, educational credentials, language test results, etc.).
📌 Step 3: Provincial Review Process
The Alberta government reviews the application (processing time: 4–6 months).
📌 Step 4: AAIP Nomination Certificate Issued
If approved, the applicant receives an AAIP nomination certificate.
📌 Step 5: Apply for Permanent Residency
Submit a PR application to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) (additional 6–12 months for processing).
📌 Step 6: Final Approval & PR Status Granted
Once approved, the applicant is granted permanent residency in Canada.
